The film stars Neil Patrick Harris as Nikola Tesla. It’s the sequel to the 2016 film Van Helsing and the second installment in the Van Helsing franchise. The film was released on 3 March 2018. The film was originally titled Tesla. The film's plot is based on the novel "The Dandy Man" by Tom Piccirilli. A group of questers and scientists restore Nikola Tesla's body and summon him to the present day in pursuit of a mythical lost jewel which he is said to hold the power of life itself, where its theft will result in humanity's destruction. In trying to stop them, Tesla discovers that mankind must evolve from its status as the dominant species on Earth, or mankind will face obliteration at the hands of a brutal alien species called Nemeses. The film had a poor opening of approximately Rs 2.44 crore on Indian box office on its first day. "Van Helsing 2" first weekend collection was Rs 16.01 crore on Indian box office on first weekend i.e., first 3 days of release. "Van Helsing 2" first week collection was Rs 24.46 crore on Indian Box office on first week i.e., 7 days of release including the contribution from paid previews of Rs 1 crore for Thursday night, paid previews are counted as part of Friday revenue by multiplexes across India. The film had a very poor second week with only 19% drop in its collection from first week. The total domestic collection of the film is Rs 108 crore as on 31st March 2018. The film has been met with a negative response from critics, as well as a furor among Indian viewers after the release of trailer and song "Mujhpe Mat Bolo". The French website LF-WEB gave it 1 star out of 5 saying that "The whole idea behind this movie is so boring I couldn't even take it seriously." While another review stated that “A joke by one guy made me laugh so hard I cried.
